Since opening the doors of The Good Samaritan Society,
we have been offering Pastoral Care Services to our
residents and clients, bringing the love of Jesus to
those who are hurting or in need of a word of
encouragement. Starting off with one full time Chaplain
serving the whole Society, Pastoral Care Services has
grown to include 19 pastors serving over 4,000 residents
and clients as we continue to grow. It is through
generous donations to the Pastoral Care Endowment Fund
that we can continue to provide the spiritual
nourishment that our residents and clients need to give
further meaning to their lives.

On Feb 10, 1955 the first
women’s auxiliary was formed within the society. The
auxiliary played a vital role in helping with the
construction costs and furnishing the auxiliary
hospital. The ladies used various methods of
fundraising to get the money and supplies needed for
startup. Canvassing throughout Edmonton and
surrounding cites brought in the majority of
donations, and once the hospital opened, the Women’s
Auxiliary organized “Food Days” during which farmers
and community members donated produce for the
residents. Their fundraising efforts increased
throughout the years, adding teas, bake sales,
rummage sales and talent shows, and today all The
Good Samaritan Society sites are using the same
fundraising ideas to bring in money from the
community to help with the comfort and care of the
residents.
