Village by the Station, which opened in 2004, is a unique community offering seniors multiple levels of support and the opportunity to age in place.
Village by the Station includes 60 private Residential Care suites, each equipped with a bathroom including wheelchair accessible shower. All suites are furnished with a hospital style bed, night table, dresser and side chair. Residents are encouraged to bring some of their own belongings, such as a chair, lamp, pictures, quilt or bedspread, to personalize their room.
Good Samaritan Canada and Interior Health Authority (IHA) work together to coordinate the placement of appropriate clients to Village by the Station.
There are 4 Dementia Care cottages which are a unique duplex designed to create a home-like setting for up to ten clients. Each half of the duplex has five bedrooms, living room with fireplace, kitchen, and secure access to a fenced yard. Clients are included in the events of daily living to the extent that they are accustomed and able. Admission is coordinated through the IHA Community Case Manager.
The Assisted Living Program at Village by the Station consists of 35 suites (33 one-bedroom and 2 two-bedroom). All suites are equipped with a kitchenette, which includes an apartment size range and fridge, bathroom with wheelchair accessible shower, and drapes. The program offers residents the flexibility to prepare breakfast and lunch in their own suite, if they choose. Residents pay rent which includes:
- 2 daily meals
- Housekeeping and linen service
- TeleCare (an emergency response service)
Optional services include:
- A third meal
- Personal laundry service
Costs of personal care services are funded by IHA. Application for admission is through IHA Community Care Programs (250) 770-3480. Residents must qualify for IHA support and BC Housing subsidy to be eligible for Assisted Living.
The Day Program at Village by the Station accommodates up to 15 adults daily. Participants may attend from one to six days per week, depending on individual need. Enrolment into the program is by referral from IHA Community Care Programs (250) 770-3480.
Services include:
- a hot meal at lunch time,
- daytime caregiver respite,
- personal care assistance,
- social/recreational activities, and
- health promotion and monitoring.
