Introduction

With spring in the air, The Good Samaritan Society has booked the date for the 1^st Annual VanMar Constructors Inc. “Spirit of Caring” Golf Tournament on August 15, 2008 at The Kelowna Springs Golf Club.  This year we hope to raise over $85,000 towards the purchase of a Wheelchair Accessible Bus for the over 250 residents and clients of Kelowna’s Mountainview Village Care Facility.  

Many of our residents are from the Kelowna area and are eager to remain a part of the community that they have lived in and love, but are no longer able to drive.  With declining health, there is an increased need to rely on the support of friends and family to provide assistance with transportation to medical appointments, shopping trips, special events in the community, recreational outings, Sunday drives, worship and many others.  For those who don’t have this support network, their social activities are limited to those provided by the facility.  This creates a feeling of disconnect from church, clubs, neighbors, family, friends, and the way of life that they were once used to.  Local businesses and retailers lose valued clients, places of worship lose faithful members, community gatherings begin to miss faces, and the younger generations miss out on opportunities to learn about their community heritage from the true “pioneers” that once played an active role in the community.

With this worthy cause in mind, we would like to take this opportunity to invite you to register to play in this year’s VanMar Constructors Inc. “Spirit of Caring” Golf Tournament. The $175 golfer’s fee includes the promise of an enjoyable day of golf with a power cart and a generous $75 tax receipt. Of course, the day would not be complete without the golfers’ breakfast, snacks, silent auction and distribution of fabulous prizes. Those who do not want to golf can still enjoy the delicious barbeque lunch for $30.

How to Register

Pint off the registration form and send it in with your payment.  Deadline to register is August 11, 2008.   Register by July 14 to be entered into an early bird draw for four rounds of golf at The Kelowna Springs Golf Club!

Prize Support or Donations

Your prize support or donations will be acknowledged in our tournament booklet, which will be distributed to our golfers and all participating businesses.  As well as inclusion in The Journey, our quarterly newsletter with a distribution of over 15,000 copies.  Kindly complete the prize support form and return it with your donated items, or, if you prefer, contact us at (780) 431-3781 and we will arrange to pick the items up.
