Assisted/Supportive Living Care

The Assisted/Supportive Living care model emerged in the 1990s as a care alternative for the elderly and those with developmental disabilities who did not require 24/7 assistance but that were unable to live completely independent.

The Good Samaritan Society was a pioneer in this area, bringing the Assisted/Supportive Living care model to Canada.  This care model promotes lifestyle independence, privacy and individualized care for residents along with six basic principles of community living:

  • Privacy
  • Individuality
  • Independence
  • Dignity
  • Choice
  • Home-like Environments
